Policy Action Center

Welcome to NFPRHA's policy action center. For nearly 40 years, NFPRHA has been at the forefront of the fight to ensure that family planning providers receive the support they need to deliver vital services to millions. NFPRHA constantly engages the White House and members of Congress on Capitol Hill in order to help them understand what family planning is, what it offers and why it deserves to be adequately funded. We invite you toᅠjoin in our efforts to boost resources for the TitleᅠX program, the nation's only dedicated funding stream for family planning programs. Be sure you visit the links on the left to stay abreast of what NFPRHA is working on and to take action.

NFPRHA is pleased to announce the availability of its newest document, titled The Public and Preventive Health Benefits of Family Planning, a compilation of public health authorities, federal authorities and provider community support for family planning and contraception as preventive health care.ᅠ As it is intended to be a living document, NFPRHA staff will update it as needed to capture the most relevant and useful information to make the case for family planning as necessary, preventive health care.

Also, be sure to read our transition paper, Family Planning: An Essential, Cost Effective Part of Health Care Reform. It lays out the six policies that the president must implement in order to make a reality his commitment to providing all Americans with access to comprehensive family planning services and to the reduction of unintended pregnancies in the United States.

Provider Refusal Regulations

On March 10, 2009, President Obama proposed regulations that would rescind former President Bush's last-minute anti-family planning provider refusal regulations. A comment period was open for 30 days and closed April 9. HHS is currently reviewing those comments, as the law designates, and hopefully soon the rule rescission will be enacted. NFPRHA was hard at work on fighting these regulations since day one and even filed a lawsuit, which is currently pending. With your help, though, we were successful in pressuring the administration to eliminate this terrible Bush policy. Thanks to all of you who commented and helped us push the Obama administration and who continue to work with us on fighting limits on reproductive freedom.
