Proposed HHS Regulations
On March 10, 2009, President Obama proposed regulations that would rescind former President Bush's last-minute anti-family planning provider refusal regulations. Hundreds of thousands of comments were reportedly submitted during the 30 day comment period which closed April 9. HHS is currently reviewing those comments, as the law designates, and hopefully soon the rule rescission will be enacted. Until a final rule is issued, the provider refusal regulation remains in effect. NFPRHA was hard at work on fighting these regulations since day one and even filed a lawsuit, which is currently pending. With your help, though, we were successful in pressuring the administration to eliminate this terrible Bush policy. Thanks to all of you who commented and helped us push the Obama administration and who continue to work with us on fighting limits on reproductive freedom.
